Privacy policy

GetNerp is a link shortener. This policy explains what we hold, what we deliberately do not, and the choices you have. It is written to match how the service actually works.

The short version

We do not log individual link clicks. When someone follows one of your links we do not store their IP address, set any tracking cookie, or build any visitor profile. We keep only coarse aggregate counts so you can see how a link is doing.

What we collect

• Account details. Your email, name, and avatar, provided by Google or GitHub when you sign in.
• Your links. The destination URL, the short code, optional expiry and click limits, and a salted hash of any link password you set. We store the hash, never the password itself.
• Aggregate click counts. For each link, per day, we increment simple tallies: total clicks, and coarse breakdowns by country, device type, browser family, and referring site. These are counts, not records of people.

What we do not collect

• No IP addresses.
• No per-click logs or records of individual visits.
• No visitor identifiers, fingerprints, or unique-visitor tracking.
• No advertising or analytics cookies.

Cookies

One cookie, gn_session, keeps you signed in. It is strictly necessary for the service to work and is not used for tracking. There are no other cookies.

Who processes your data

• Cloudflare hosts the service and stores the database, under its data processing terms.
• Google and GitHub handle sign-in when you choose them.

We do not sell or share your personal information, and we never have. This covers the "do not sell or share" right under the CCPA.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, the CCPA, and similar laws you can access, export, and delete your data. Both are self-serve from the dashboard, under "Your data":

• Export. Download everything we hold about you as a JSON file.
• Delete. Permanently remove your account, your links, and their stats. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.

Retention

We keep your account details and links until you delete them or close your account. Aggregate counts are not personal data and may be kept as long as a link exists.
